biORACLE get UiB’s Learning Environment prize 2018
On September 5th, 2018, our brilliant students received UiB’s Learning Environment Prize 2018 for their project biORACLE (biORAKEL in Norwegian)! What an achievement!
UiB’s Learning Environment prize is given to units, groups or individuals that have worked successfully with improving the learning enviroment and enhanced student learning. It is up to students and student organisations to nominate candidates (teachers, teacher groups, learning environments, administrative sections or other units with responsibilities for teaching activities) for the award.
This year, this award goes for the first time in the university’s history to a student-led project!
biORAKEL is a student-led project supported by bioCEED where oracles (experienced biology students) advise, help and support younger students in their effort to learn biology – and being a student at the Department of Biological Sciences (BIO), UiB. biORAKEL meetings happen weekly at BIO, and the oracles welcome their fellow students with knowlegde, friendship, advise and waffles. Read more about biORAKEL at http://biorakel.w.uib.no/.
The jury point to biORAKEL as a project that has a very positive impact for the learning environment, across student cohorts and study programs at the Department of Biological Sciences.
The award is 50 000 NOK, a diploma and a beautiful owl (made by biology professor Harald Kryvi). The waffle budget is saved!
We congratulate our students and thank them for their effort and hard work. We are extremely proud and thankful for having such great student partners!
