New records for the Student Poster Symposium at BIO
One more semester ends with a fantastic Student Poster Symposium at BIO. In so many ways, the Fall 2022 edition of the symposium was exceptional. First by the number of posters presented (54 - a new record), but also by the size of the audience who participated in the sessions and by the quality of both the pitches and posters that were presented.
This semester's six courses to contribute were BIO201, BIO250, BIO299, MOL231, MOL270 and BIO300A (see infobox further below), offering a large spectrum of topics such as ecology and palaeoecology, bioethics, research practice in biology and molecular biology, and academic writing.
Students enrolled in one or several of the courses had the opportunity to pitch (individually or in groups) their work in 60 seconds in front of the large audience at the Nash auditorium.
Following the presentations, all could visit the posters at the mezzanine and interact directly with the presenters.
6 BIO courses participated to the Student Poster Symposium Fall 2022:
BIO201 – Ecology
BIO250 – Palaeoecology
BIO299 – Research practice in biology
MOL231 – Project in Molecular Biology
MOL270 – Bioethics
BIO300A – Academic writing
Focus on peer feedback
For the previous editions, we asked the audience to provide the presenters with feedback about their poster (peer feedback). This was done via this digital form for assessment.
In a constant search for ways to improve student learning experience, we have now given the audience access to two forms, the original one for assessing the posters and a new one designed specifically for peer reviewing the pitch.
The contribution of the viewers was massive as we collected over 1800 forms with feedback about the pitches, and nearly 450 forms with feedback about the posters. The presenters have now been communicated the forms, and will certainly learn about how their work has been perceived and appreciated.
Get ready for the next symposium in May 2023
We are delighted to announce that the next edition of the Poster Symposium will take place on May 16th, 2023.
We will come back soon here and at biopitch.w.uib.no with more information about the courses involved and the programme.
We look forward to see you there!
In the meantime, you can visit our website at biopitch.w.uib.no and check out all the posters of this semester.
