bioCEED 2022 annual report and some interesting impact numbers!

It is the annual reporting time of the year! bioCEED is proud of all we have accomplished during 2022 and we would like to share it with our readers.

For example, a peak into the annual report shows:

  • We continue to support bioHIVE, a learning community involving our Students as Partners in the Centre, and bioBERG, a research group akin to a journal club designed to support researchers involved in STEM education.
  • The 3-year Diku funded project DEVELOP has concluded its first year where the focus is to create online training modules for future work-practice hosts.
  • Several collaborative projects with other SFUs, e.g. on the Leading Educational Change through SoTL course, and the Teaching and Learning course for PhDs at UNIS as well as the collaboration with MATRIC on a workshop for authors on developing manuscripts for the Nordic Journal of STEM Education Research.
  • The bioCEED toolkit has been released and is growing. Here, we present short cases that describe some of our teaching and learning innovations and activities.
  • The two big projects FieldPass and ReDesign, both funded by Diku-AKTIV, are close to conclusion. Through these projects we have created novel assessments that enable better course alignments across institutions.
  • Two PhD theses were submitted, with emphases on cooperative learning and student motivation.
  • bioCEED has had a variety of outreach activities during 2022, including 43 invited presentations/talks, 10 conference presentations/papers, and 7 scientific publications.
  • And so many more activities and achievements during 2022……

For more details, check out the report highlighting our activities in 2022.

In the beginning of 2023, we were also asked by HK-dir to report on our impact as an SFU for the whole center period (2014-2022) within the areas of work relevance, development of our study program and courses and outcomes for stakeholders–as well as effects beyond our partners and collaborators. Although time consuming, this gave us an opportunity to reflect on our impact across our 9 years as a SFU… it is impressive!

“bioCEED has given 1335 students (units) practice or skills training opportunities (a total 24 105 days), in activities ranging from work practice courses, mentoring, research practice, research assistance and skills training”.

“For staff and collaborators, 241 people have participated in cross-sectoral mobility (a total of 5266 days), as work practice hosts, through research and teaching mobility and as adjunct faculty”.

“Courses and programs have been developed in partnership with teachers and students, benefitting all students at BIO (UiB) (>750 students/year, in particular BSc Biology app. 200 students) and all students at UNIS including biology, earth, and physical science (> 800 p/y, in particular AB BSc Bachelor 40 p/y)”.
