In 2018 there has been some excitement about whether there would be a new funding round for new Centres for Excellence in Education (SFU). Last application round was in 2016 which ended with 4 new centres. In the proposal for the 2019 National Budget in October 2018, 25 million NOK were granted to strengthen the competitive arena for incentives in Higher Education. The SFU scheme so far managed by NOKUT will be administered by the new Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education – Diku, from January 1st, 2019. If the National Budget is approved by the Parliament most likely Diku will prioritize a new SFU announcement round in February 2019 with application deadline in May.
