bioBEES – research technicians at bioCEED
Christmas is right around the corner, and we are all looking forward to a little cozy break. After two months of employment, we are well underway with different tasks. One of the first tasks we took on was to find a less tongue twisting name than the title research technicians student group. We can now therefore present you with bioCEED’s research technicians’ new title: bioBEES! Other projects Includes tasks of different workloads, like helping PhD candidate Anja with data collection, to more extensive tasks were the bioBEES have their designated responsibilities.
Workshop
So far, with Tonje and Pernille in the lead, we have conducted a student workshop with representatives from Biologisk Fagutvalg and Mentorene. The students were presented with the newly drafted learning outcome made by the redesign group. Students divided into two separate groups that each discussed the daft, their motivations and goals for the bachelor’s degree. This feedback, combined with the feedback from the research groups at BIO, will be used at the teachers retreat and contribute to further work in the redesign project. This ensures that the student voice is heard in this process.
Student communication and channels
Student representation and involvement is an important focus in bioCEED, and therefore one of the ongoing projects focuses on getting an overview of student communication and channels. Lars’s goal is to map how students are represented, what channels they have and to what degree they can contribute to changes in processes at the institute of biological sciences. When finished, this will help both students and employees in the future with a road map on where and how to reach the students.
Websites
Jørund, Tonje and Lars Martin have been exchanging ideas about two new upcoming websites with the rest of the bioBEES. Together, we agreed that it would be a good idea to gather the new and the old sites in a central hub. This to attract more readers and make the tools and resources more available to students. The idea was pitched to the rest of the bioCEED-crew in a meeting on Tuesday, and they seemed positive. We also suggested to have additional editorial content on this page. A new meeting is scheduled for the end of January. In the meantime, the bioBEES will work on suggestions for layout (with Jonathan), domain name and recruitment, among other things.
Mapping research experience
To pick up the thread from the ideas presented in fra Vugge til Grad, the bioBEES are working on a comprehensive list that will show the degree of research experience provided at different courses at the institute of BIO. This could provide a good overview for students on what BIO has to offer, and in the long-term help to further develop courses to offer a more authentic research experience for the students.
Peace from the bioBEES
