Meet bioCEED’s new student representatives at UNIS!

A new semester has started here at UNIS, and on that occasion bioCEED have gotten two new student representatives on their team!

We are both third year biology students from the University of Bergen, who have come to Svalbard to finish the last semester of our bachelor’s degree. We are doing the Arctic Environmental Management and the Marine Arctic Biology courses, and are super exited to do loads of field work, go on plenty of hikes, and explore the Arctic!

Mathilde Bryn Eikefjord is 23 years from Voss, Norway. Her interests are marine biology, and the plan further is to take a master’s degree in fisheries biology and management. Mathilde would like to be a part of bioCEED because she thinks it is important to focus on how to facilitate the study of biology in a good way, in order to prepare students for their careers, by combining and linking studies and practice.

Pernille Eyde Nerlie is 24 years old and come from Sandefjord, in the Southeast part of Norway. She has studied a year of International Environment and Development studies at NMBU, before starting on her bachelor’s degree in biology in Bergen. In the future she would like to work with the ocean, and how we can used it in a more sustainable way. Pernille’s plan is therefore to continue studying in Bergen, where she wants to do a master’s degree in marine biology. Before coming to Svalbard Pernille was a student representative in bioCEED Bergen, and she is very excited to continue in bioCEED and represent the biology students here at UNIS!

What appeal to us about bioCEED is their focus on developing a strong connection between education and work life. bioCEED’s efforts to equip biology students with the skills, knowledge and real-life work experiences to prepare them for future challenges is something we are excited to take part in!
